Khaleda pays tribute to Pintu
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia paid tribute to former party lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu at its central office at Nayapaltan in Dhaka this morning.
Khaleda reached the office around 11:35am and placed wreath at Pintu’s coffin. She also offered special prayers for the eternal peace of the departed soul.
Later, the namaz-e-janaza of Pintu, who died of heart attack at Rajshahi Central Jail yesterday, was held at the party office, which was attended by hundreds of leaders and activists of BNP and its associate organisations.
Talking to reporters before the janaza, BNP standing committee member Moudud Ahmed said, “This death is unexpected to us. Pintu was not only an emerging leader, but also an active organiser.”
Black flags have been hoisted at every offices of the party across the country to mourn the death.
Pintu, who was serving life-term for his involvement in the BDR carnage in Pilkhana on February 25-26, 2009 that left 57 army officers killed, died of heart attack in Rajshahi yesterday.
He was “brought dead” to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital from Rajshahi Central Jail at 12:15pm.
The body of the BNP assistant organising secretary was taken to Nayapaltan office around 11:00am today.
After his janaza, the body was taken to his Hajaribagh residence.
He was buried at Azimpur graveyard in the grave of his father after another namaz-e-janaza at Lather and Technology Institute in Hazaribagh area after Asr prayers.
Earlier on Sunday night, Pintu’s brother Nasim Ahmed Rintu received Pintu’s dead body from the jail authorities after completing necessary formalities including forensic test of the deceased.
Later, Pintu’s first namaj-e-janaza was held on the Hetemkhan Baro Mosque premises, joined by local BNP leaders and activists.
The ambulance carrying Pintu’s body reached his Hazaribagh residence around 5:50am.
From his residence, Pintu’s body was brought to Nayaplatan around 10:50am.
