‘Ansarullah Bangla’ man held over Ashulia bank heist
Police today arrested a man said to be a member of militant group Ansarullah Bangla Team in connection with the grisly bank robbery in Ashulia that left nine people including the branch manager killed.
Jashim Uddin alias Asad of Chapainawabganj was arrested from Daulatpur of Manikganj around 3:00am, said police.
The arrested was paraded before the media at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on Minto Road this afternoon where police claimed that they were able to unearth the motive behind the incident.
Speaking at a press conference there, Additional Deputy Inspector General Khandaker Golam Faruk said the arrestee stabbed the bank manager to death during the robbery.
Police have so far arrested seven people in connection with the heist.
Some 10 robbers including the arrestees swooped on Kathgora branch of Bangladesh Commerce Bank Limited (BCBL) in broad daylight on April 21 and killed the branch manager and eight others.
One of the robbers was killed in mass beating while two -- Mahfuz and Shumon -- are on the run.
