5 killed in Mymensingh lightning
At least five people including two schoolboys were killed and six injured by lightning in Debaura, Haluaghat and Phulpur upazilas of Mymensingh this morning.
In Debuara, the schoolboys -- Mosharrof Hossain, 14, a class VII student of Vedipara High School, and Delwar Hossain, 12, class V student of Gujirkandi Govt Primary School -- died on the spot when they were struck by lightning.
Delwar's sibling Rahima Khatun, 9, his cousin Mosharrof Hossain, 32, and one Harun-Or-Rashid, 45, sustained injuries during the incident, said Abdul Haque, officer-in-charge of Debaura Police Station.
Mosharrof and Harun were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
Meanwhile, lightning killed two farmers -- Jamshed Ali, 50, of Baniakanda village and Rubel Karim, 32, of Puruapara village in Haluaghat upazila -- when they were working on the field.
Three women, who were also injured by the lightning, have been rushed to local hospital and clinics, said Jakiur Rahman, OC of Haluaghat Police Station.
In Phulpur, another fisherman Kafil Uddin of Dhonar Bhita village also killed by lightning.
