Police detained a man, his wife and sister-in-law with fake notes worth Tk 80,000 in Chittagong city early today.

Hailed from Feni, Tajuddin Ahmed, 25, his wife Shapna Begum, 25 and sister-in-law Shahnaj Akhtar, 20, are active members of a counterfeiting ring, said Md Mohsin, officer-in-charge of Bakolia Police Station.

Acting on a tip-off, police detained Tajuddin along with fake notes worth around Tk 10,000 from Tulatola Bazar around 12:30am, the OC said.

Following his confessional statement, police later raided Tajuddin's rented house at Green View Residential area in the port city and detained his wife and sister-in-law with fake notes worth Tk 70,000, OC Mohsin said.

A case was lodged with Bakolia Police Station in this connection.
