Transport strike in Rajshahi
An indefinite transport strike was enforced through Rajshahi this afternoon protesting a decision to allow state-run buses to ply the district’s local routes.
Transport owners, workers called the strike demanding withdrawal of the decision and threatened for indefinite strike across Rajhsahi division if their demands are not met.
“We will strike Rajshahi division from tomorrow if the decision is not withdrawn by today,” Kamal Hossain, president of Rajshahi Motor Sramik Union, told our Rajshahi correspondent.
At a meeting in Bagha Upazil headquarters ground, state minister for foreign affairs, Shahriar Alam, inaugurated BRTC bus service for local routes of Rajshahi from today.
Soon afterwards, Rajshahi Transport Owners and Workers Oikya Parishad called the strike.
Private transport owners will face setback if the BRTC buses are plied on the upazila level routes, Kamal said.
