The High Court today directed the police to arrest in 48 hours the persons responsible for torturing a woman after tying her to a tree in Narail.

The court directed the deputy commissioner of Narail and the officer-in-charge of  Lohagara Police Station to submit a report by May 18, informing the court about the steps it has taken following the incident.

Besides, the court ordered the authorities concerned to ensure treatment to the victim, Bobita Khanom, and security.

The court also issued a rule upon the government to explain why it should not be directed to prosecute the persons under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.

The HC bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman came up with the order and rule following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court Lawyer Manzil Murshid.

He filed the petition on behalf of Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh today, saying that Bobita was brutally beaten up by her husband and his family members after tying her to a tree on theft charge.
