UK, EU condemn blogger Ananta murder

United Kingdom and European Union have strongly condemned the brutal murder of Ananta Bijoy Das, blogger and organiser of local Gonojagoron Mancha in Sylhet today.

In a statement, the Delegation of the European Union to Bangladesh said Das is the third blogger who has been hacked to death this year in Bangladesh.

The EU reiterated its strong attachment to freedom of expression as an essential element of a democratic society and called for a prompt investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The EU Ambassador Pierre Mayaudon also expressed his condolences to Das's family.

Meanwhile, British High Commissioner to Bangladesh Robert W Gibson condemned the brutal murder of Ananta Bijoy Das.

‘Shocked by and condemn the brutal murder of Ananta Bijoy Das. There must be space for free speech in Bangladesh,” he tweeted.
