3 Jessore ‘Razakars’ sent to jail
International Crimes Tribunal-1 today sent three war crimes suspects to jail after law enforcers produced them before it in connection with a case filed for alleged involvement in wartime offences.
Police arrested Billal Hossain, Akram Hossain and Ozehar Moral yesterday from Jessore, Prosecutor Rezia Sultana Chaman told The Daily Star.
They were arrested after the tribunal yesterday issued arrest warrants against 11 including the three who were alleged members of Razakar Bahini in Jessore during the country's Liberation War.
The suspects were involved in rape and killing incident in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore district in 1971.
They were "associates of Sakhawat Hossain", a former Jamaat-e-Islami and BNP lawmaker from Jessore and now in jail in connection with another war crimes case, said investigator Abdur Razzaque Khan.
The prosecution said that while investigating the war crimes allegations against Sakhawat Hossain in Jessore, the investigation officer found involvement of 11 suspects in several crimes.
The other suspects are: Ibrahim Hossain, Sheikh Majibur Rahman, Abdul Aziz Sardar, Aziz Sarder, Kazi Oahidul Islam, Lutfar Moral, Abdul Khaleq Moral and Mushiar Rahman.
They are now absconding, said Rezia.
The ICT has directed the prosecution to submit formal charges or a progress report into the investigation of detained war crimes suspect Sakhawat on May 17.
