Mawlana Bhashani university closed sine die
Mawlana Bhashani Science and Technology University in Tangail has been closed for an indefinite period after a Bangladesh Chhatra League leader was killed in a BCL factional clash on the campus.
ASK Mosharaf, a Masters student of Criminology and Police Science Department and the self declared BCL president of the “politics-free” university, was killed and two others – Faisal and Badhan – hurt when two rival groups locked in a clash over establishing supremacy on the campus this afternoon.
Both the groups used local lethal weapons, while two cocktails were also exploded during the clash, reports our local correspondent.
Being informed, police rushed to the campus and brought the situation under control.
The trio was stabbed during the clash between Monir and Mosharaf group in the cafeteria area around 3:00pm.
Critically injured Mosharaf along with the other two were first rushed to Tangail Medical College Hospital, said Panbondhu Biswas, sub-inspector of Tangail Model Police Station.
Doctors later referred Mosharaf to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and Faisal to Orthopaedic Hospital in Dhaka, he added.
Mosharaf succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital around 6:45pm, said Proctor Dr Khademul Islam.
Earlier on May 9, the two groups locked in another clash with over the same issue which was mediated by the university authorities, the proctor said, adding that Monir group attacked Mosharaf group in the latest clash.
