Having played only four matches in IPL 2015, Bangladesh’s top allrounder Shakib Al Hasan could not give his best with the bat and ball for Kolkata Knight Riders.

Since Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) failed to qualify for the knock-out phase of the multimillion dollar tournament, Shakib’s IPL stint for 2015 is effectively over.

After playing 14 matches, Shah Rukh Khan’s KKR were placed fifth among eight teams in the points table. Only the top four teams can qualify for the play-offs to determine the champion of the Indian Premier League.

Kolkata Knight Riders accumulated 15 points by winning seven matches, losing six while one game with Rajasthan Royals was washed out. They missed the fourth position by only a single point as the defeat against the Royals on May 16 sealed their fate.

KKR had the services of Shakib for only four matches, the first and the last two games of this season. Shakib had to come back from India since Pakistan toured Bangladesh from mid April to early May.

In the four games Shakib played in IPL 2015, he scored 36 runs at an average of 12 with 23 being his highest score.

He picked up four wickets at an average of 30.75 and gave away 8.78 runs per over. His best bowling figures for this year was 2/22 against Mumbai Indians.

The first game Shakib played for KKR was against Mumbai Indians at Kolkata where his team won the match by seven wickets. In his second game, KKR lost by three wickets to Royal Challengers Bangalore. The third game Shakib played, his team was beaten by Mumbai Indians by five runs. In his last match, Rajasthan Royals eliminated Kolkata from the play-offs after KKR came out short by nine runs.

In his first match against Mumbai Indians, Shakib was hammered for 48 runs in four overs, and captured the wicket of Aditya Tare. He was not required to bat in this match.

During Shakib’s second game in this year’s IPL, he was run out for naught, bowled two overs for 17 runs and picked up Darren Sammy.

Shakib’s third match was unquestionably his best match of the tournament where he succeeded with the ball and the bat against Mumbai.

He bowled four overs for only 22 runs and captured the scalps of Parthiv Patel and Ambati Rayudu in quick succession. Shakib scored 23 from 15 balls, and almost won the match with Yusuf Pathan.

The last game Shakib played in IPL 2015 against Rajasthan was virtually a do-or-die match for his team. Shakib failed to pick up any wickets while giving away 36 runs in four overs.

While batting, Shakib scored 13 runs from 11 balls before being dismissed by Chris Morris.

Shakib’s IPL stint in 2015 was brief and below-par considering his performance in the previous years.

Overall, he has played 32 matches in IPL, scored 383 runs at an average of 21.27, strike-rate of 139.27 with 60 being his highest score so far.

In these matches, Shakib has captured 38 wickets at an average of 21.76, with an economy rate of 6.92. His best performance with the ball was 3/17 in 2012.
