Salahuddin to be brought back after India’s decision: Asaduzzman
State Minister for Home Asaduzzman Khan today said the government will take necessary steps to bring BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed back home when the Indian government decides to hand him over.
“BNP leader Salahuddin is now an under-trial prisoner there and we’ll take necessary steps to bring him back when the Indian government decides to hand him over to Bangladesh government,” he said while talking to reporters at the Secretariat.
Replying to a question about the government’s initiative to bring the BNP leader back, the junior minister said the Foreign Ministry is maintaining contact with the Indian government but did not get any response in this regard.
Asked about the Interpol’s red alert against the BNP leader, Asaduzzman said the Home Ministry has not issued any red corner notice to India.
Reporters sought comments about Salahuddin’s statement that he had been taken to Shillong blindfolded after changing vehicles several times, to which Asaduzzman said the BNP leader was changing his location frequently as the government was trying to find him.
“How Salahuddin reached Shillong will be known on his arrival in Bangladesh.” he said.
On May 11, Meghalaya police arrested BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed when he was found in the Golf Links area of Shillong, after nearly two months into his disappearance.
Since he had no valid papers, identity proof or travel permit, he was arrested by Meghalaya police and booked under the Foreigners Act.
On May 12, Salahuddin phoned his wife Hasina from Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health & Neurological Science (MIMHANS) of India requesting her to go there.
