Feroza Begum posthumously nominated for Banga Bibhushan
Legendary singer Feroza Begum, who passed away on September 9, 2014, has been posthumously nominated for Banga Bibhushan Award, conferred by West Bengal State Government of India.
The award, that felicitates luminaries with a Bengali connect from various fields, recognises the outstanding contribution of Feroza Begum to the enrichment of Hindustani classical music.
Feroza Begum, considered one of the finest Nazrul Sangeet artistes and an accomplished classical singer, has enriched Nazrul Sangeet and Indian classical music throughout her lifetime.
Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, will confer the award today at 4pm at the Nazrul Mancha in Kolkata. Sushmita Anis, her niece will receive the award for the late Feroza Begum.
