Salahuddin's condition now stable
Doctors at a Shillong hospital in India, where BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed is being treated, yesterday said his condition was stable but he would have to stay a few more days there due to some minor health complications.
“Examining the reports of all the medical tests carried out on him [Salahuddin] since May 12, the medical board formed for his treatment found that his condition was stable,” said a local journalist, quoting Dr Vaskar Borgohain.
Vaskar is the acting medical superintendent of the health institute, North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS).
Quoting the doctor, Subrata Acharjee, India bureau chief of Samoy TV, told The Daily Star that the BNP leader would need two to three more days to recover completely.
Salahuddin, joint secretary general of the BNP, was shifted to the specialised hospital on May 13 following recommendations of a medical board of Shillong Civil Hospital.
On Thursday, Vaskar told Indian journalists that the BNP leader had been suffering from urology, heart, kidney, prostate and skin related problems.
That day, BNP Assistant Office Secretary Abdul Latif Jony, quoting Salahuddin’s wife Hasina Ahmed, said the senior BNP leader’s condition was worsening.
Salahuddin was admitted to the civil hospital on May 11 after police found him loitering in “an unbalanced mental state” in Golf Link area of Shillong. He was missing for about two months.
