Gang-rape of Garo woman pre-planned: Police
Law enforcers are suspecting that the recent gang-rape of a Garo woman in the capital was pre-planned.
“It will be clear whether the incident was pre-planned or not after arresting one of the offenders,” Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), told reporters at DMP media centre in the afternoon.
Police are trying to find out the culprits with the video footages and information obtained from the victim. “We are trying to detect the faces of some people and hope to arrest them soon,” Monirul said.
He also said that they talked to the victim yesterday. She will be able to identify the culprits if they were brought before her, the police official added.
The 21-year-old Garo woman was gang-raped inside a running microbus in the capital's Kuril area Thursday night. The incident happened at a time when the whole country is still reeling from the shock of sexual assault on women during Pahela Baishakh celebrations.
The victim was forcibly bundled into the microbus by five men from Kuril Bus Stand area, where she was waiting to catch a bus for returning to her Uttara residence around 9:30pm, the victim's sister told The Daily Star yesterday.
