Nazrul celebrated across the country

Three-day celebrations at Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University (JKKNIU) in Trishal marking the 116th birth anniversary of National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam concluded this past week.
The programmes included placing of wreaths at the poet's portrait, colourful rally, seminars, musical soiree, plays, photo exhibition on Nazrul, painting competition and reception to eminent personalities.
Professor Soumitra Shekhar, Professor Lina Taposhi Khan of Dhaka University; Professor Shahid Iqbal of Rajshahi University and Professor Musharrat Shabnom of JKKNIU took part in the discussion on the life and work of Nazrul at the closing ceremony. A seminar on “Nazrul in Bengali Literature” was also held.
Earlier, a reception was accorded to Nazrul researcher Professor Mustafa Nurul Islam and veteran Nazrul artiste Fatema-Tuj-Zohra on the concluding day. They were honoured with crests and citation by JKKNIU authority.
Cultural shows by the students of Music and Fine Arts Departments of the university enthralled the huge audience. The mesmerising performance of Fatema-Tuz-Johra was also lauded.
Theatre and Performance Studies Department students staged three plays including “Piriti Poromnidhi” based on Nazrul's play “Jiner Badsha” marking the celebrations.
A photography exhibition on Nazrul was also popular draw.
Ahmed Humayun Kabir Topu, Pabna
Ekushey Boi Mela Udjapan Parishad Pabna observed the 116th birth anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam over the week. A discussion focusing the life and work of the national and the cultural program featured on the occasion held at the Pabna town hall premise. Nazrul artiste Ostad Abul Hasem chaired the discussion while the vice chancellor of Pabna university of Science and Technology (PUST) Dr. Al Nakib Chowdhury spoke as the chief guest. Focusing the multiple angles of his writing, the speakers said Nazrul was a poet of love as well as a poet of revolution. Unfortunately, we just praised Nazrul for his revolutionary spirit, but he deserves a salute for his literary genius in all aspects in life, the speakers said.
Later, artists performed Nazrul songs and dance on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the district administration: the district Shilpakala Accademy and Shishu Academy jointly organised a programme marking the anniversary at the Pabna Zila Parishad auditorium. Artistes of Shilpakala Academy and Shishu Academy jointly performed at a cultural programme.
Rezaul Karim, Faridpur
Marking the birth anniversary of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Humayun Kabir Smirity Parishad (HKSP), a local social organisation arranged a celebration programme at the house of Polli Kobi Jasimuddin of Ambikapur village in Faridpur town this past week.
The programme included a discussion, recitation, rendition of songs and exhibition of books on the bard.
Mafiz Imam Milon, secretary of HKSP discussed the life and work of the poet. Sheikh Maruf and Geeta Datta recited poems while Rashid Ahmed Titu, Sushil KumarSarkar and Tripti Roy rendered Nazrul songs at the function.
The organisers demanded that the bard's birth anniversary be held on a larger scale as the poet was a key figure in the socio-cultural scenario of the region.
The programme was chaired by educationist professor Altaf Hossain.
