‘Islamic State member’ arrested in Dhaka

Detectives claimed to have arrested a member of Islamic State (Isis) from a house in Baridhara area of Dhaka last night.

The arrestee, Abdullah Al Ghalib, is a recruiter of the Isis and a militancy trainer, Nazmul Alam, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch of police (North) said at a press conference at the media centre of Dhaka Metropolitan Police today.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of DB raided Galib's Baridhara residence last night and picked him up with a passport and around 43 Jihadi books, the DB official said.

Four hard disk drives and two portable disk drives were also recovered from his possession, Alam added.

During primary interrogation, the arrestee said that he was an active assistant coordinator of Ansarullah Bangla Team and member of Hizb ut-Tahrir, he said.

On May 25, the detectives detained two suspected members of the Isis from the capital. The detainees Aminul Islam Begh, 40, a local recruiter of IS, and Sakib bin Kamal, 30, his associate.

Begh, the information technology chief of a multinational company in Dhaka, already selected 20 activists including Kamal, a teacher of a English medium school, to join the militant group in Syria and Iraq, DMP sources said.

A team of DB police arrested Begh, who was a regional coordinator of JMB, in Uttara while Kamal in Lalmatia in the city last night.
