2 buried while cutting hill in Ctg

Two workers were killed and another injured as a chunk of earth fell on them while they were cutting hill at Banshkhali upazila of Chittagong this afternoon.

The deceased are Mir Kamal, 32, and Mohammed Liakat Ali, 27, while the injured is Md Halim, 20, said police.

Quoting eyewitnesses, police said around eight to 10 workers were cutting a privately owned hill at Dakkhin (south) Para in Pukuria union for selling sand around 2:00pm.

Suddenly a chunk of hill fell on them burying the two alive. Halim was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 5:30pm.

Swapan Kumar Majumder, officer-in-charge of Banskhali Police Station, said the hill is owned by Abul Goni and Abdur Sobur, two cousins in the area. They were cutting the hill illegally, police said,adding that the owners of the hill went into hiding following today’s accident.
