When the slight drizzle became a torrential downpour after the tea-break, umpires decided to call off play for the third day of the Test match between Bangladesh and India at Fatullah today.

Only 47 overs were bowled on the third day frequently interrupted by rain.

Bangladesh came back into the match after a torrid first day courtesy of Shakib Al Hasan. He captured four wickets for 105 runs in 24.3 overs.

He was ably supported by the leggie Jubair Hossain. The young spinner took two wickets for 113 runs in 19 overs.

However, his inexperience showed with numerous full-tosses and half-trackers during his spells.

Shikhar Dhawan was the top-scorer for India in their first innings. He scored 173 runs before being Shakib’s first victim of the day.

Murali Vijay fell to the same bowler when he was batting on 150.

Earlier, Shakib Al Hasan made further inroads only three balls after Saha’s dismissal by sending back Ajinkya Rahane for 98 runs.

Rahane tried to pull a shortish ball from Shakib that skidded through and uprooted his off-stump.

He was aggressive during his stay at the wicket, played 103 balls and smashed 14 boundaries all around the park.

Jubair Hossain picked up his second wicket of the match when he clean bowled Wriddhiman Saha for 6 runs with a perfectly pitched googly.

When play resumed after a brief rain delay, Shakib Al Hasan struck almost immediately when Murali Vijay was adjudged leg-before-wicket by the umpire.

The Indian opener was dismissed for 150, and he faced 272 balls in his marathon innings. He struck 12 fours and a massive six during his stay at the wicket.

India captain Virat Kohli failed to make an impact with the bat in this match. He was on 14 when Jubair Hossain bowled him with an excellent googly.

After smashing a cover drive in the previous ball, Virat went for the same stroke to a ball outside off but inside-edged Jubair’s googly on to his stumps.

Rohit Sharma soon followed Dhawan back to the pavilion when Shakib Al Hasan’s delivery crashed on to his off-stump.

Shakib’s looping delivery angled in towards the off-stump. Rohit went for a booming drive, failed to connect properly and saw his furniture disturbed.

Shikhar Dhawan was the first Indian wicket to fall on the third day when Shakib Al Hasan sent him back for 173.

The Indian opener faced 195 balls and hammered 23 boundaries in his scintillating knock.

Shakib saw Shikhar coming down the wicket and fired the delivery at the batsman’s feet. Shikhar tried to flick, closed his bat-face early and the leading edge lobbed up for an easy catch for Bangladesh’s top allrounder.

Bangladesh: Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Mushfiqur Rahim (Captain), Shakib Al Hasan, Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das (Wicketkeeper), Shuvagata Hom, Jubair Hossain, Taijul Islam and Mohammad Shahid.

India: Shikhar Dhawan, M Vijay, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (Captain), Ajinkya Rahane, Wriddhiman Saha (Wicketkeeper), R Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma and Varun Aaron.
