‘Robber’ killed in Faridpur ‘gunfight’
The ringleader of an inter-district robber gang was killed in a “gunfight” with police in Faridpur Sadar upazila early today.
The deceased was identified as Selim Sheikh, 30, of Madhukhali upazila of the district.
On secret information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery at Kanaipur, a team of police conducted a drive in the area around 3:30am.
Sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire on police, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a “gunfight”.
At one stage, Selim was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.
Saiful, a sub-inspector of Faridpur Kotwali Police Station, was also injured in the incident.
Police recovered a shutter gun, one foreign made pistol and one round of bullet from the spot.
Selim was wanted in several cases filed with different police stations in Faridpur, Manikganj and Savar.
