Jamaat calls 24-hr hartal Wednesday
Jamaat-e-Islami has called a 24-hour hartal from tomorrow morning protesting death penalty against war criminal Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed.
The shutdown will be enforced from 6:00am tomorrow, said a press release issued by the party after the Supreme Court upheld Mojaheed’s death penalty for his wartime offences.
Terming the war crimes case against Mojaheed “false”, the party demanded immediately release of their leader.
The Supreme Court today upheld the death penalty to war criminal and Jamaat-e-Islami leader Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed for killing intellectuals during Liberation War in 1971.
The apex court, however, commuted Mojaheed's death penalty to life term imprisonment for killing people in Bakchar area of Faridpur during the Liberation War in 1971.
Meanwhile, the members of Border Guard Bangladesh have been deployed in the capital ahead of the hartal.
A total of 18 platoons of the paramilitary forces, deployed this evening, would be on guard at different key points and patrolling the roads in the capital city of Dhaka, a BGB official told The Daily Star.
