The ruling Awami League today hailed the Supreme Court verdict upholding the death penalty of Jamaat’s second-in-command Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed for war crimes charges while the BNP, as usual, kept mum.

Talking to reporters at his Karwan Bazar office, AL Joint General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif has said the nation finally got the long overdue and expected verdict.

Saying that the whole nation is pleased with the verdict, Hanif hoped the verdict will be executed soon.

Dhaka City AL and Bangladesh Chhatra League brought out rallies on different city roads to rejoice the SC verdict.

BNP, on the other hand, did not make any comment on the Jamaat leader’s verdict.

BNP standing committee member ASM Hannan Shah did not say anything on this issue while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters Unity.

Bangladesh Democratic Council arranged the discussion marking the ‘Newspapers Black Day’.

The Daily Star contacted a number of BNP leaders but none of them agreed to make reaction on record on this issue.

Even they requested not to publish their names that they denied to comment on the verdict.
