Kushtia ‘outlaw’ killed in shootout
An “outlaw” was killed in a shootout with police in Mirpur upazila of Kushtia early today.
The victim was identified as Nazmul Islam, 29, alias Sagar, a member of Gono Mukti Fouz, our Kushtia correspondent reports quoting police.
Tipped-off on a possible robbery on the Kushtia-Meherpur highway, police raided Katlamari area around 3:30am, Kazi Jalal Uddin, officer-in-charge of Mirpur Police Station said.
“Sensing law enforcers’ presence, Nazmul and his cohorts opened gunfire. Police were forced to fire back. After a while, the criminals fled leaving the body of Nazmul behind.”
He was wanted in four cases which include the murder of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) leader Ismail Hossain Panjeron April 14, 2014, the OC said.
Police recovered one shutter gun, two bullets and two machetes from the spot. Nazmul hailed from Kholishakundi village in Daulatpur upazila of Kushtia.
