Biman Bangladesh Airlines will operate a special flight on Dhaka-Hong Kong-Dhaka route on August 9.

The national flag carrier arranged the chartered flight following requests by Bangladeshi students who got admitted or are studying at different universities in Hong Kong, Md Salahuddin, general manager (marketing and sales) of Biman, told The Daily Star.

"We have completed all necessary formalities and got permission from all respective authorities of Bangladesh and Hong Kong to operate the special flight," Salahuddin said.

Around 90 passengers, mostly students, are likely to fly to Hong Kong in that flight, scheduled to depart from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:15pm, said the Biman top official.

Sources in Biman said in the return flight to Dhaka, 60 passengers, mostly Bangladeshis who remained stranded in Hong Kong, will return to the country.

Regular flights on Dhaka-Hong Kong-Dhaka route remained suspended following the coronavirus outbreak.

At present, Biman is operating two cargo flights weekly on the route.

Intended passengers can buy tickets from Biman's sales offices or through its call centre.
