Qatar says will hire more Bangladeshi workers ahead of Football World Cup 2022

The Qatar government has said it will hire workers from Bangladesh in security, hospitality and transport sectors ahead of the Football World Cup 2022.

Qatar has also expressed interest in hiring more workers from Bangladesh in the construction and service sectors after the Football World Cup.

The assurance came during a formal meeting between Bangladeshi State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment Imran Ahmed and Qatar's Labour Minister Ali bin Saeed bin Smaikh Al Marri held on Wednesday (May 18, 2022) in Qatar.

According to a press release issued by the Bangladesh Embassy in Qatar, the two ministers discussed the development, expansion of Bangladesh's labour market and recruiting Bangladeshi workers in Qatar during and after the Football World Cup 2022.

Regarding the bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Qatar, State Minister Imran said, "Bangladesh is happy as a Muslim country, Qatar, is hosting the Football World Cup 2022. Bangladesh is ready to extend any kind of cooperation for the successful arrangement of the World Cup."

Mentioning the demand of workers at Qatar ahead of World Cup, Qatar's Labour Minister assured of hiring workers from Bangladesh.

Apart from praising Bangladeshi workers for their skills and efficiency, the Qatari Labour Minister asked Bangladeshi workers to abide by the law of the country.

The meeting also discussed the Sixth Joint Committee between Bangladesh and Qatar which will be held in Dhaka.

State Minister Imran also urged businessmen of Qatar to invest in specialised economic areas in Bangladesh.

The meeting was attended by the Senior Secretary of the Prime Minister's Office Tofazzal Hossain Mia, Under Secretary of the Ministry of Labour of Qatar Hassan Al Obaidi and Bangladesh Ambassador to Qatar Jasim Uddin.
