Bangladeshi worker trapped inside container dies in Maldives
An expatriate Bangladeshi worker died and another was seriously injured after being trapped in a shipping container in the Maldives on Sunday (June 12, 2022).
The deceased was identified as Joynal Abedin of Gazipur district while the injured is Khokon Mollick of Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur district.
The incident happened at a port in Hulhumale Phase II while they were unloading goods from containers around 3:30 pm.
According to fellow Bangladeshi workers, the two Bangladeshi workers—Joynal and Khokon-- were trapped inside a container while they were taking out a sheet of marble stone.
On information, police rushed to the spot and took them to the hospital where the doctor on duty declared Joynal dead.
Khokon, who was seriously injured, was shifted to the ICU of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the capital. His condition was critical.
According to Bangladesh High Commission in the Maldives, police are investigating the incident. Arrangements have been made to send Joynal's body to Bangladesh immediately after completing necessary process.
