1000 kg jatka seized in Chandpur

Police today seized around 1,000 kilogrammes of jatka fish from Faridganj of Chandpur.

The hail came amid the weeklong jatka conservation campaign that began from April 1. Four people were also arrested in this regard.

Four people were detained. Police also seized the covered van which carrying the fish.

Being informed, Nazmul Hasan, police intercepted the Dhaka-bound covered van around 11:00am, said Nazmul Hasan, officer-in-charge of Faridganj.

The seized fishes were later distributed to orphanages, the OC aid.

In another incident, Bangladesh Coast Guard conducted a drive at a launch, MV Jahid-3, around 1:30am and seized 250 kg hilsa fish, said commander Lieutenant M Habibur Rahman of Chandpur Coastguard.

The government has banned catching, transporting, stocking and selling of jatka fish (hilsa fry less than 10 inches long) for eight months, starting from November 1 to June 30, to increase the production of hilsa, the national fish that meets up around 13 percent of total fish production in the country.
