UP chairman shot dead in Jessore

Unidentified miscreants gunned down a union parishad (UP) chairman in Jessore Sadar upazila this morning.

The deceased, Mosharraf Hossain, 58, was the chairman of Ehali Union Parishad in Sadar upazila and also the general secretary of Awami League in the union unit, according to the police.

An armed gang of four persons riding two motorcycles stopped Mosharraf at Panchbari on Jessore-Magura highway around 10:00am and opened fire, police said quoting witnesses.

Locals rushed him to Jessore Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Two bullets pierced through his head and chest, hospital sources said.

Mosharraf came under the attack when he was going to his office from his Palbari residence, our Jessore correspondent reports quoting Enamul Haque, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station.

The motive behind the killing could not be asserted immediately.
