Detectives raid Farabi’s Sylhet house
The Detective Branch (DB) of police today conducted a drive in the Sylhet residence of Shafiur Rahman Farabi, prime suspect in the blogger-writer Avijit Roy killing.
With assistance from Sylhet Kotwali police, a three-member DB team from Dhaka reached the rented house of Farabi in Munsipara area of the city around 12:30pm.
Mohammad Rahmat Ullah, additional deputy commissioner (Media) of Sylhet Metropolitan Police, told our Moulvibazar correspondent that a laptop, a desktop CPU and some papers were seized during the drive.
A DB source said Farabi's mother and sister used to live in that house, but the law enforcers found the house empty when they reached there.
Earlier on March 2, Farabi, who had issued repeated death threats to writer-blogger Avijit Roy, was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion in the capital's Jatrabari area.
Unidentified assailants hacked Bangladesh-born US citizen Avijit to death and badly wounded his wife Rafida Ahmed Banna on Dhaka University campus after the couple came out of Ekushey Boi Mela on February 26 evening.
