A man died of smoke inhalation as a fire broke out at a building in Paltan area of Dhaka early today.

Victim Anwar Hossain, 40, was a caretaker of Swadesh Tower where the fire originated around 5:20am, a constable of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) police camp told The Daily Star.

Anwar fell sick after inhaling smoke during the fire, which was doused around 7:00am by 10 firefighting units.

He was rushed to the DMCH where he died around 7:20am, the policeman said.

The reason behind the blaze could not be ascertained immediately.
