Govt blocks 1,279 more porn sites
The telecom regulator today blocked 1,279 more pornographic websites in the country, a joint move through internet safety solution programme run by Telecom Department and blocking the links from internet gateway level.
Both international internet gateway (IIG) operators and officials from Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission confirmed the development to The Daily Star today.
“We have received an order to block pornographic websites and immediately implemented the directive,” said MA Hakim, an owner of a renowned IIG.
Earlier the BTRC also blocked 244 more pornographic websites on February 6 in the country using the same capacity, which was the first initiative of internet safety solution programme that will be fully functional from the second week of March.
When blocking 244 pornographic websites telecom minister Mustafa Jabbar said, porn site and other harmful websites will be blocked through this process and the move will continue from the government side.
Earlier, in November 2016 the High Court directed the government to take initiative to block pornography websites and Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Communication (BTRC) had blocked about five hundred such sites at that time.
