Khaleda to brief media tomorrow

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will brief the media tomorrow on the ongoing political situation of the country.

The press conference will be held at 4:00pm on Friday at her Gulshan office in Dhaka where she has been staying since January 3, BNP said in a statement this evening.

"Khaleda Zia will highlight the ongoing situation of the country and the stance of the BNP-led 20-party alliance at the press conference," said the statement signed by Maruf Kamal Khan Sohel, press secretary to the BNP chief.

It will be the second press conference of Khaleda since January 6 when the alliance began its nonstop country blockade demanding fresh election under a nonparty administration.

In the statement, Khaleda strongly condemned the incident of "picking up" BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed.

"I am gravely concerned and aggrieved," she said blasting the law enforcement agencies "for not producing him before court and denying his arrest."

"Salahuddin was arrested as he had been announcing the party's and the 20-party alliance's programmes which made the government angry," alleged Khaleda.

"Salahuddin's arrest in the midnight was the outcome of the government's politics of vengeance," the former primier said.

Salahuddin's wife Hasina Ahmed said law enforcers picked up her husband from a residence at Uttara around 10:15pm on Tuesday.

But police have denied the picking up of the BNP leader who had been discharging duties as the party's spokesperson since the arrest of BNP Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed on January 31.
