Sangram editor, 3 others exonerated from contempt proceedings

A tribunal in Dhaka today exonerated the editor of Bangla daily Sangram and three others from contempt proceedings after they apologised unconditionally for publishing report and making comments about a sub-judice matter on the war crimes case trial.

The three-member panel of International Crimes Tribunal-1 headed by Justice M Enayetur Rahim asked them to be cautious, careful and respectful while publishing reports and making comments on any sub-judice matter in future.

The four are: Abul Asad, editor of daily Sangram; Md Nuruzzaman, Rangpur correspondent of the daily; Ekramul Haque Dulu, former commander of Muktijoddha Sangsad of Badarganj thana unit in Rangpur; Azizur Rahman Ranga, who was president of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Rangpur unit in 1971.

 The reports in the daily were published on December 27, 2013 and January 26 last year when the trial of Jamaat-e-Islami leader ATM Azharul Islam was running in the tribunal.
