HT Imam accuses BNP of ‘creating terror’
Prime minister’s political adviser HT Imam today accused BNP of creating “terror” at different polling centres to make the municipality elections controversial.
“BNP has carried out terror acts at different voting stations of 18 municipalities to create controversy over the polls and the Election Commission,” he said, adding the elections took place in a “congenial atmosphere’ excepting some stray incidents.
HT Imam came up with the complaints in a letter handed over to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kari Rakibuddin Ahmed minutes before the end of the voting.
He described BNP’s allegations about the vote rigging as blatant lie.
“We have also brought allegations of irregularities but we did not request to postpone elections of any centres,” he added.
Earlier in the morning, dumping BNP’s allegations of irregularities in municipal polls, HT Imam said the elections were underway in free and fair manner.
“BNP’s allegation about grabbing polling centers is nothing but fairytales and unrealistic,” he told reporters at the Election Commission today.
“The Election is being held in a fair manner. Voting has been suspended at around 14 centers out of 3,555. It is no such big deal,” Imam said blaming the BNP and Jamaat activists for violence.
It is not Awami League, rather BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami activists are carrying out attacks on our party men to embarrass the government,” Imam said.
He was among the Awami League delegation that, led by Abdur Razzak, visited the Election Commission this morning but failed to meet the chief election commissioner.
