A poacher along with 10 dead wild birds of different species was arrested from a hilly forest area under Kamalganj upazila of Moulvibazar early today.

The arrestee was identified as Amir Miah (30) of Tinatpur village under Kamalganj upazila, our Moulvibazar correspondent reports quoting officials.

On a tip-off, a police team and officials of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department in Moulvibazar jointly launched a drive in Adampur forest and adjacent areas early in the morning, said Monayem Hossain, range officer of the department.

During the drive, the joint team arrested Amir from Rameshwarpur village near the forest and recovered the birds, killed by the poacher, from the spot, he said.

Besides, an air gun and 12 rounds of bullets were recovered from the possession of Amir, said Monayem.

However, other poachers managed to flee the scene, sensing the presence of the team, added the range officer.

Anisur Rahman, assistant conservator of Wildlife Management and Nature Conservation Department in Moulvibazar, said a case was filed against Amir with Sreemangal Police Station under firearms and wildlife preservation acts.
