SC verdict proves govt is illegal: Fakhrul
Pulling reference to the full verdict of scrapping the 16th amendment, BNP today placed a demand for resignation of the government and a polls-time supportive body.
“The verdict proves that the government is a total failure,” BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at a briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
“It proves that the government is clinging on to power in an undemocratic fashion,” he said. “The government should step down and arrange an election under a polls-time supportive government.”
The full verdict of the Supreme Court highlighted that in Bangladesh, human rights are at stake, corruption is rampant, parliament is dysfunctional, crores of people are deprived of basic healthcare and mismanagement in the administration is acute.
BNP’s open call towards new polarisation
BNP has also issued an open call to all political parties in regard to formation of a new alliance ahead of the next parliamentary elections.
Mirza Fakhrul made the open call when journalists asked if BNP is interested in forming a new alliance, especially when other political parties are trying to make new polarisations.
“If anyone stands opposed to this undemocratic government, BNP will welcome them,” Fakhrul replied to the query.
The BNP leader was speaking after a joint meeting of the party and all its affiliate bodies.
