The cabinet today gave approval to a proposal for forming two committees to resolve inter-ministerial disputes.

The government will form the bodies so that the ministries do not have to go to the court to resolve disputes between the ministries, Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam told reporters at a press briefing after the regular cabinet meeting.

The first committee will be five-member secretary-level committee. The other will be an eight-member ministerial-level body, the secretary said.

The decision came from today’s cabinet meeting which was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The ministries will lodge complaints to the secretary-level committee in case of any inter-ministerial dispute. If this committee fails to resolve the dispute, the complaint will be forwarded to the second committee. The minister-level committee will act like an appeal committee, the cabinet secretary informed.

A gazette will soon be issued in this regard, he added.

Besides, today’s cabinet meeting also gave final approval to the Bangladesh Bridge Authority Act under which the Bridge Division will construct up to 1,500 metre-long bridges.
