EC favouring AL supported candidates: 20-party
The BNP-led 20-party alliance today alleged that the Election Commission is favouring the ruling party-backed candidates in the upcoming three city corporation elections.
It also alleged that “tough speeches” of ministers, ruling party lawmakers and high officials of law enforcement agencies are making the election environment more biased and panicked.
“The Awami League-backed aspirants are carrying out their electioneering in a very aggressive style violating the electoral code of conduct, while the candidates supported by the opposition are not getting minimum scope to this end,” said a 20-party statement undersigned by BNP Joint Secretary General Barkat Ullah Bulu this evening.
The statement added that the alliance and countrymen hope that the Election Commission and government will take proper initiatives to hold the elections to Dhaka North City Corporation, Dhaka South Corporation and Chittagong City Corporation in a free, fair and neutral way.
