Anwar, Mintoo, Aman’s bail scrapped
The Supreme Court today scrapped bail for three BNP leaders and asked them to surrender before a lower court within a week over separate cases.
The Appellate Division cancelled their High Court bail in 52 separate violence cases filed against them earlier this year during BNP’s agitation.
A four-member bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha told the lower courts to consider their bail prayers independently after the BNP leaders surrender before it.
The apex court also upheld the HC order that granted bail to BNP leader Tariqul Islam in four cases filed for arson and vandalism.
The court came up with the orders after hearing 56 separate petitions moved by the government seeking stay on the High Court’s anticipatory bail granted to the BNP leaders.
On July 9, the HC granted anticipatory bail for four weeks to MK Anwar in nine cases, Mintoo in one case, Tariqul in four cases and Aman in 42 cases.
The cases were filed with different places in and outside Dhaka during anti-government agitation after January 5 this year enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance.
