Attack on Fakrul: 26 BNP men sued in counter case
A day into a case was filed against 26 Awami League men over the attack on Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in Chittagong, 26 BNP men were sued today alleging that a vehicle of his motorcade hit a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver and his fellow leaving them injured on their way to Rangamati.
Md Mohsin, CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver of Rangunia area, lodged the case against the BNP men with the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shahidullah Kaisar under Speedy Trial Act-2002 (Amendment-2014).
The accused include BNP’s Rangunia upazila unit convener Md Shawkhat Ali Nur, its former organising secretary Yusuf Mia Chowdhury and the municipality unit convener Mahbub Safa.
Accepting the case, the court directed Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to investigate the case asking it to submit the report by July 19 after concluding its investigation, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Advocate Nikhil Kumer Nath.

In the case statement, the plaintiff introducing him as a CNG driver, said on June 18, he was waiting in front of Ichhakhali Health Complex of Rangunia upazila for passengers. At about 10:40pm, the speedy vehicle carrying BNP Secretary General hit his vehicle.
When the agitated locals protested the incident, then the accused swooped on them and vandalised two CNGs there. Later, locals rushed them to local health complex, according to the FIR.
Contacted, BNP Rangunia upazila unit Convener Md Shawkhat Ali Nur said, everybody knows what happened on that very day.
“The case is absolutely a fabricated one and has been filed only to harass the BNP men,” he said.
“AL, Jubo League and Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) were behind the attack on our secretary general and other BNP leaders. Now, only to cover up the facts, they lodged the false case”, he added.
On Sunday, Fakhrul’s motorcade came under attack in Icchakhali area while he along with other BNP leaders was going to visit the landslide victims in Rangamati, leaving several leaders including Fakhrul injured.
On Wednesday, a case was lodged accusing 26 local AL, Jubo League and BCL men with the same court for their alleged involvement in the attack.
