Narayanganj mayhem: Quader warns of organisational action
Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader today warned of taking organisational action against those who were behind the yesterday’s mayhem in Narayanganj city.
“I have talked to the prime minister in this regard. She (prime minister) said organisational steps would be taken against those who were involved in the incident,” said Quader, also the minister for Road Transport and Bridges.
Quader was addressing a press conference at Awami League president's political office in Dhanmondi of Dhaka.
Narayanganj city Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy and around 50 others were injured as supporters of local AL lawmaker Shamim Osman attacked Ivy and her followers, leading to a clash in Narayanganj's Chashara area yesterday.
The incident took place as some of Ivy's followers tried to evict hawkers from the footpaths. The entire area turned into a battlefield as the followers of the two leaders got locked in chase and counter-chase.
Quader said he has urged the home minister to investigate the incident and take legal action against the agitators if they used firearms during the incident.
The home minister called Selina Hayat Ivy and Shamim Osman today, Quader added.
