A day ahead of the polls, ruling Awami League’s mayor runner Talukder Abdul Khaleque today hoped of a free and fair Khulna City Corporation election.

“There is still a level-playing field existing. I hope tomorrow a free and fair election will take place,” Khaleque said at a press briefing in local Awami League office.

Refuting opposition BNP’s claims of arrangements for vote rigging, the ruling party candidate brought counter allegations and said “they (BNP) are preparing to create chaos”.

“They (BNP) are bringing in criminals. They are planning to rig the elections tomorrow. I have verified information in this regard,” he told journalists.

He also called upon opposition BNP candidate Nazrul Islam Manzu to accept the result of the election. “Come, let us accept the verdict of the people. I will accept it.”

Also, the mayor runner expressed discontent with the returning officer of the election, who he said was affiliated with the politics of BNP.
