Expressing concern over the increase of criminal tendency among educated people, Law Minister Anisul Huq today said literate persons are getting more involved in country’s corruption.

Usually, the tendency of crimes decreases in any country when the rate of literacy increases, the minister said.

“On the contrary, most of the crimes are being carried out in Bangladesh through educated persons although literacy rate has increased here,” the minister said.

He made the comment while speaking at a programme arranged by Dutch Bangla Bank at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in Dhaka, where 2,038 students who passed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination this year were given scholarships.

He urged the students who got scholarship to stand against corruption.

The minister further said corruption is against the lessons and morals of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

For this reason, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken a zero-tolerance policy against the corruption, the minister added.
