Home minister’s warning inconsistent: Fakhrul
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today came down heavily on the home minister for his warning of tough action against the party men and said it is totally inconsistent before announcing verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
“Their (government) motive has been exposed through the warning,” Fakhrul said while talking to reporters after extending sympathy to the bereaved family members of late eminent novelist Shawkat Ali’s Dhaka residence this evening.
Earlier in the day, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal warned BNP men of taking stern action if they create “chaos and go for destructive activities” centering verdict in the Zia orphanage graft case filed against BNP Chief Khaleda Zia.
“The home minister is holding an important post and he cannot put the country’s law and order situation in a fearful condition by making such warnings” Fakhrul said.
The BNP leader also blasted the government for hurriedly finishing the trial proceedings of the case and said it has been done only to keep Khaleda out of the upcoming general election.
“Khaleda Zia’s lawyers clearly said that justice hurried is justice buried. Despite this, they (ruling quarter) did not put their heed to the matter,” he said.
A special judge court in Dhaka yesterday fixed February 8 to announce the verdict in the Zia orphanage corruption case, her son Tarique Rahman and four others.
