LDC graduation a perverted joke with nation: BNP
BNP today blasted the ruling Awami League for celebrating a countrywide programme by holding government staff hostage in the name of Bangladesh's graduation from the Least Development Countries (LDCs).
"It is nothing but a perverted joke with the nation," BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Rizvi Ahmed came up with the remarks hours after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was accorded a grand reception at a programme in Dhaka on this occasion.
Holding the government responsible for turning the country into a sorry state, Rizvi said democracy and good governance have been destroyed as the ruling quarter has indulged in misdeeds and mismanagement.
Citing the dilapidated condition of the country's roads and highways, the BNP leader said public life has become stagnant as people are being forced to stuck on the streets in acute traffic jam.
"A spree of embezzlement of people's money is on while the government is treating it as development," Rizvi also spokesperson BNP said while addressing a press conference at the party's Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka.
The prime minister is trying to face a challenge ahead of the upcoming general election in the name of such graduation, Rizvi said adding that "It is a ridiculous game with the people."
The incidents like looting, bribery and corruption are on the growing trend while the burden of unemployment is increasing alarmingly, he said. "Is it an indication of the development?" he raised the question.
Among Asian countries, Bangladesh is in the worst position in terms of discrimination where rich become richer while poor get poorer, he alleged.
Referring to the January 5, 2014 general election, Rizvi said the ruling party is stepping up with a blueprint to rearrange such election.
"We along with the people will thwart your (Awami League) plan and you will be forced to hold the next general election under a non-party management," he warned.
