BNP supports pro-left hartal for power tariff hike

BNP has extended its support for half-day hartal called for tomorrow by left-leaning parties protesting the raise of power tariff from December.

Rizvi Ahmed, senior joint secretary of the party, confirmed The Daily Star of the party’s latest decision to support the hartal today.

The left-leaning parties in a press release on November 23 announced that they will observe a half-day hartal across the country tomorrow in protest of the hike.

Earlier on November 23, a 5.3 percent power tariff hike was imposed on retail consumers.
