Taposh resigns from pro-AL lawyers’ body
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has tendered his resignation as the member secretary of Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad taking responsibility for “organisational defeat” in the recently held Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election.
Taposh submitted the resignation letter to the office of the general secretary of Awami Leagueyesterday, said Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun, convener of Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, a forum of pro-Awami League lawyers.
He tendered the resignation shouldering responsibility as most of the candidates nominated by the party were defeated in the SCBA election, Yusuf told The Daily Star today.
The resignation, however, will not be accepted, he said, adding that Barrister Taposh will attend the programme of Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad, as its member secretary to place wreaths to the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on the occasion of the Independence Day tomorrow.
Hundreds of lawyers also have already requested Taposh to withdraw his resignation and brought out a procession on the SCBA premises today demanding withdrawal of Taposh’s resignation, Advocate Yusuf added.
Pro-BNP lawyers have won 10 out of 14 posts, including that of the president and secretary, in the SCBA election.
Pro-Awami League lawyers have secured the rest of the four posts, including that of an assistant secretary.
The election results were announced on Friday morning after the two-day voting ended on Thursday.
