Khaleda’s bail extended in Zia Charitable case
A Dhaka court today extended BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s bail in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case until June 28.
Judge MD Akhteruzzaman of the Special Judge Court-5 also recalled the production warrant on Khaleda in this case after the jail authorities did not produce Khaleda before court citing in the custody warrant that she is “not fit for today”.
Meanwhile, Anti-Corruption Commission’s Prosecutor Mosharrof Hossain pleaded the court to interrogate Khaleda’s doctor regarding her nonappearance.
The Anti-Corruption Commission filed the Zia Charitable corruption case with Tejgaon Police Station in August 2011, accusing Khaleda and three others of abusing power to raise funds for the trust from unknown sources.
The three other accused are: Harris Chowdhury, political secretary of the then PM Khaleda between 2001 and 2006; Ziaul Islam Munna, assistant private secretary (APS) to Harris; and Monirul Islam Khan, APS of former Dhaka city mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka.
Khaleda is currently serving five-year prison term in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.
