BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has not suffered any mild stroke in the prison and she did not become senseless, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam today told the media.

Khaleda Zia became weak as her blood sugar level fell, he told reporters at a press briefing at his office quoting the Inspector General (IG) of Prisons.

The attorney general held the press briefing after the High Court adjourned till today the hearing of a petition filed by the BNP chief seeking bail in an arson case filed in Comilla.

After meeting her at the Old Central Jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka yesterday, her personal physicians told reporters that she may have suffered a mild stroke in jail on June 5.

"Khaleda Zia suddenly fell on the floor on June 5. She could not recall how it happened. It seems she suffered a mild stroke," Professor of Medicine SM Siddique, who was among the four-member team of doctors, told reporters yesterday.

Today, the attorney general sought time from the HC for placing arguments against the bail petition.

The bench of Justice Md Shawkat Hossain and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman fixed tomorrow for resuming the hearing on the bail petition.

On June 7, Khaleda's lawyer Khandker Mahbub Hossain prayed to the HC to direct a Comilla court to pace up the hearing and dispose of the bail petition.

The HC bench adjourned till today (June 10) the hearing on the petition after Attorney General Mahbubey Alam prayed for time for placing arguments against the bail.

The arson case was filed under Special Powers Act 1974 after a bus in Chouddagram upazila in Comilla was set ablaze on February 2, 2015. The incident claimed seven lives and injured many others.
