Khaleda reaches Cox’s Bazar to visit Rohingya camps
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia reached Cox’s Bazar from Chittagong this evening to visit the Rohingya camps in Ukhia upazila and distribute relief materials among the displaced Myanmar nationals.
Amid receptions given by leaders and activists of the party at different point and associate bodies on the way to Cox's Bazar from Chittagong, the BNP chief reached the Cox’s Bazar circuit house around 8:00pm without facing any untoward incident like yesterday.
Khaleda Zia will stay overnight there and is scheduled to distribute relief materials among the Rohingya people visiting their camps in Ukhia upazila around 11:00am tomorrow, our staff correspondent reports.
Earlier, the convoy of the BNP chairperson started journey from Chittagong circuit house around 11:50am today where she stayed last night.
Thousands of leaders, activists and supporters of the party’s different fronts and associate bodies equipped with placards, festoons and banners gathered on both sides of the thoroughfare to greet Khaleda Zia.
The enthusiastic BNP men were chanting slogans and waving the party flags to welcome Khaleda Zia in Cox’s Bazar.
Khaleda’s trip to Cox’s Bazar Rohingya refugee camps
Khaleda accompanied by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu left Dhaka yesterday morning. Party leaders and activists joined her from the Nayapaltan central office.
When they reached Feni, the convoy came under attack at Mohammad Ali Bazar near Feni district town.
Chanting “Joy Bangla” slogans, they broke glasses of cars, including that of Channel i, DBC, Ekattor, Baishakhi, Ekushey TV channels and The Daily Star and Prothom Alo, and beat up dozens of BNP leaders and activists.
Nearly 15 journalists were also assaulted even after they disclosed their professional identities.
