Maiden JS session: BNP forms human chain in protest
BNP leaders and activists have formed a human chain in Dhaka protesting the maiden session of the 11th parliament starting today.
Leaders and followers of the party formed the human chain around 10:30am in front of the Jatiya Press Club 30 minutes before the scheduled time.
Following the human chain, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other party senior leaders are scheduled to address the programme.
The leaders and activists were seen chanting different slogans demanding reelection and release of their chairperson Khaleda Zia from jail.
Meanwhile, a huge number of law enforcers were deployed around the Jatiya Press Club to fend off any trouble.
Yesterday, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the programme at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office.
The maiden session of the 11th parliament will begin at 3pm today, within 31 days of the national election held on December 30 with the participation of all the registered political parties.
Awami League, led by Sheikh Hasina, formed the government for the third consecutive term following its landslide victory in the national election.
Turning down the election results with the allegation of 'massive vote robbery', BNP demanded reelection.
Eight MPs of the party and its alliance partner Gono Forum elected in the election have not taken oath yet.
